Jacobs Crazy Eight-Ender

Brad Jacobs rink from Sault Ste. Marie captured their third-straight Northern Ontario Men's Curling championship with a 9-2 victory over Sudbury's Mike Jakubo. The victory comes with another trip to the Tim Horton's Brier in Saskatoon and the goal to bring a Canadian Championship back to Northern Ontario for the first time since Al Hackner did it in 1985. 2012 NOCA Junior Provincials

The 2011-12 Northern Ontario Junior Men's and Women's Provincial Championships take place Thursday, January 5 to Sunday, January 8. The Atikokan Curling Club will be hosting the Junior Men while the Sioux Lookout Golf and Curling Club will host the Junior Women. Eight Men's and Women's teams are playing in this weekend's competition after qualifying through playdowns in their respective areas. Both the Men's and Women's teams are competing for one spot each in the M&M Meat Shops Canadian Juniors in Napanee, ON February 4 to 12, 2012. McCarville back to defend NOCA Championship

The Copper Cliff Curling Club in Sudbury, ON plays host to the 2011-12 Northern Ontario Women's Curling Championship from December 9 to 11. Four spots in the Ontario Women's Championship are up for grabs with defending Northern Ontario champion Krista McCarville looking to take one of them. McCarville has won the Ontario Scotties title in four of the last five years but lost to Rachel Homan in last year's final. N. Ontario Dominion Men’s Regional Playdowns

This weekend will see 6 Men’s regional events take place. One team from each event will earn a berth in The Dominion Men’s NOCA Provincials. The events are taking place at the Keewatin CC (Region 1), Port Arthur CC (Region 2), Geraldton CC (Region 3), Tarentorus CC (Region 4), Copper Cliff CC (Region 5), and the Cochrane CC (Region 6). Lilly & Johnston N. Ontario Junior Champions

Kendra Lilly and her team from the Idylwylde Curling Club managed to beat previously unbeaten Karlee Jones from the Port Arthur Curling Club in Thunder Bay twice on the final day to capture the Northern Ontario Junior Women's Championship. Under Northern Ontario Curling Association rules, a team with an unbeaten record has to be beaten twice in the final. In the first final, Lilly stole the ninth and tenth end to take an 8-6 win forcing a second final. Jones jumped out to a two point lead after the first end in the second final. Northern Ontario Junior Provincials

The top six men's and women's junior curling teams in Northern Ontario will be competing in North Bay at the North Bay Granite Curling Club for the right to represent Northern Ontario at the Nationals in Calgary. The round-robin begins January 7 at 2:30pm for both the men and women. If a playoff is necessary, it will take place Sunday, January 9 at 1:00pm. The NOCA Women’s provincial starts today at the Nipigon Curl-A-Drome. 8 teams from across Northern Ontario are competing for the title of NOCA Women’s 2011 Champion. As well, the top four teams earn berths in Ontario Scotties to be held at the Thornhill G&CC, January 24-30, 2011. The Courtesy Freight Superspiel and the KIA Cup Classic Superspiel are both open for registration. These events are open to any teams (men, women, juniors, seniors, mixed) with a berth to The Dominion NOCA Men’s Provincial being awarded to the top NOCA Men’s team from each event. The Courtesy Freight Superspiel takes place at the Fort William Curling Club November 12th –15th. The KIA Cup Classic Superspiel will be held December 3rd - 5th at the Soo Curlers Association.
